Battered Onion Rings: Five Recipes for Serving Fun!

The best onion rings achieve a perfect harmony of onion, batter and seasoning, filling the mouth with sweet, juicy flavors that would make a chef proud. Having eaten, tested and modified our recipes, then eaten more of our fair share, we feel we are qualified to be official connoisseurs of these delightful morsels.

While they are traditionally sides to classic American foods such as Hot Dogs and Hamburgers, they are also enjoyed as a hearty appetizer or even as a main course. At Windsor Foods, we like to explore new and creative ways to show our customers how to serve these tasty, scrumptious delights. So, we’ve compiled a few of our favorite recipes for you to enjoy.

I. O-Cones!

— Looking for a fun idea for the kids? After cooking, make a single cut in 6 to 8 onion rings and hang them over the rim of an ice cream cone filled with cocktail sauce, honey mustard, guacamole or ranch dressing. Kids will love the uniqueness and fun of something entirely different.

II. Fiesta Fried Rings

— Fill a pre-formed, eatable tortilla bowl full of rings and top with a zesty guacamole aioli. Throw in a few sliced jalapeno's for a zesty kick! It’s a great, colorful way to serve them. If you’re still hungry, eat the bowl too!

III. O-Ring Chili Pie

— Again, using a pre-formed eatable tortilla bowl, fill with onion rings and smother them with hot, steamy chili and shredded cheese. And, we’ve got just the right chili from The Original Chili Bowl at Windsor Foods!

IV. Crispy Onion Ring Steak Caesar

— Toss 2 cups Caesar lettuce mix with dressing and place on a serving plate. Garnish with a half-cup of diced tomatoes, 2 Tbsp of sliced black olives and 2 Tbsp shredded parmesan cheese. Top salad with 2-3 oz. sliced steak and 5-6 crispy beer battered onion rings.

V. Loaded Buttermilk Battered Rings

— Place 5 large cooked rings on serving plate and top with 4 oz. cheese sauce, 1 tsp. chili seasoning and a half-cup diced tomatoes. Garnish with 2 Tbsp. diced black olives and 2 Tbsp. sliced jalapeños and serve. Load ‘em up, move ‘em out!

Each of these onion ring recipes works best with our sumptuous Fred’s for Starters® onion rings. Our battered, beer-battered and breaded onion rings are made with Grade “A” Jumbo Sweet Spanish Onions, hand-packed to keep them whole and, they have an easier bite than less expensive white or yellow onions.

And, like all our award-winning appetizers at Windsor Foods, our onion rings are now available in a handy re-sealable packaging, to increase freshness and reduce inventory loss.
